2 Tips For Cleaning Your Upholstery

You want your furniture to both look good and last you for a long time. Because of this, you are going to want to make sure that you keep your upholstery looking good. While you are going to see some wear and tear in your upholstery over the years, you can definitely keep it looking in the best condition possible by cleaning it. Inevitably, you are likely going to get stains and spills on your upholstery that will need to be cleaned. While having them professionally cleaned is a good thing to do on occasion, there are several things that you can do to keep them as clean as possible in between professional cleanings. This article is going to discuss 2 tips for cleaning your upholstery.

Use A Wet/Dry Vacuum

If you happen to spill something on one of your upholstered pieces of furniture, it is very important that you get them removed as soon as possible. If you let the spill remain on the upholstery for too long, it is not only going to give the spill more time to sit and stain, but it is also likely going to sink into the cushion and get it wet. A wet cushion can create all sorts of issues, such as mold, and can be very hard to dry. A great way to clean a stain as quickly as possible is to use a wet/dry vacuum. This type of vacuum is great for removing the moisture from the upholstery and from the cushion very thoroughly. You are simply going to want to switch the vacuum to wet mode and go over the upholstery again and again until no more liquid comes out.

Steam Clean

Once all of the moisture has been removed from the spill or stain, if moisture was involved, you are going to then want to actually remove whatever it is that left behind the stain. A great way to get the upholstery clean without making it wet again is to steam clean it. By using a steam cleaning machine you are going to get the cleaning properties of hot water in the form of steam. The steam is going to clean the upholstery and draw out the stain, without leaving any of the moisture behind. Also, because the steam is so hot, you likely aren't going to have to use any other products that may potentially damage your upholstery.
