How To Clean Stains From A Wool Rug
Wool rugs are
What You'll Need:
- Vacuum
- Soft bristle scrub brush
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- Baking soda
- 1/2 tsp.
liquid dish detergent - 2 cups warm water
- Shallow bowl
- Clean towels
Instructions:
- Any spills or messes should always be cleaned up immediately to prevent them from staining your rug. Once you have the majority of the spill cleaned up, sprinkle baking soda onto the mess. The baking soda will help soak up any odors, and they can soak in the
spill as well. Allow the baking soda to sit for about a half an hour, then vacuum it up using your vacuum cleaner. - Next, combine the dish detergent, warm water and white vinegar into a bowl. Blot the area with the mixture to dampen it, but do not make it soaking wet, then use the scrub brush to gently remove the stain. Don't scrub too hard, or you could end up ruining the fibers of the rug.
- Take clean, cool water and another towel, and blot the area again to help rinse out the detergent/vinegar mixture. Again, don't soak the area, just dampen it.
- Place a dry towel over the top of the spot to soak in as much of the moisture from the area as possible.
- Finally, prop up your rug using a stool, chair or
another piece of furniture. Place a fan nearby to help dry your rug.
When cleaning a wool rug, or any type of rug or carpet, always test the cleaning agent in a small area to be sure it doesn't discolor or damage it. Never use any cleaners containing bleach, as you will leave a lighter, and very noticeable spot behind. Vacuum your rugs often to help remove dust, dirt and food particles, and to prevent them from building up and causing your rug to look dingy.
