What Needs Dry Cleaning?

You may not have thought about having anything dry cleaned in a while. With so many people working from home due to COVID-19, clothing sales for most retailers have gone down, except those that specialize in sweats and yoga pants. It's not unreasonable to assume that dry cleaners are currently not getting the kind of volume they're used to. But there's probably plenty of stuff around your house that really could use it, stuff you might have been putting off.

For example, if you have wool, suede, leather, or other types of winter coats, it's a good time to have them thoroughly cleaned before you put them away. Most dry cleaners are happy to handle your leather goods, which means that old purse that really needs a cleaning or your nice winter boots also can get cleaned. A lot of people have been putting off spring cleaning because there's just so much else that needs to get done — the kids need to be urged through their distance learning, you've got to work, and you've got to keep up with the larger household chore list that comes from everybody being home all the time, not to mention the stress that also comes from everybody being home all the time. So maybe you haven't gotten around to putting the winter stuff away. It'd be nice to make sure everything is good and clean and ready to wear when you do, no?

Also, if you're the kind of person who keeps clothes at the office to change in and out of — in case of spills or because you bike to work- it might be worth swinging by and grabbing those clothes to have them cleaned, if possible.

Many dry cleaners are now offering pick up and delivery services. Some even have apps you can download, so you can schedule pick up and delivery around your own life, hectic as it may seem right now. Those that don't have apps may offer delivery after drop-off, so you can drop off your dry cleaning when you're doing a grocery run, and they'll bring it back to you when you're done. Which means this is a chore you can handle without it turning into an actual chore.

Also, many dry cleaners do also offer regular laundering of clothes. (As with all previous mentioned services, you'll need to check for availability in your area.) Given your increased workload, it might help you take a break if you can get someone else to wash the socks.
